Miniature Donkeys at The Elms Farm
~ Our Brood Jennets ~

Brood Jennets at Elms Farm

The miniature donkey brood jennets listed below are a sample of the quality female donkeys in the Elms Farm donkey breeding program. Our breeding female donkeys have been carefully selected for their conformation, pedigree, bloodline, temperament, color, genetic diversity, and compatibility with our herd sires. We travel throughout North America to personally inspect prospective jennets to ensure they meet our criteria before including them in our breeding program. Using this approach and carefully planning each herd sire - jennet mating, we believe we can produce top quality miniature donkeys and further improve the miniature donkey breed.

We have a few of those special long haired (woolly) jennets on our farm. Whisper is one of them, a gorgeous 50/50 spotted jennet. We really love her very stocky build, and gentle temperament. The long hair seems to be accented by her spot pattern, and is so beautiful on a breezy day. We first saw her at her birth ranch, with her sister. I took a picture of the two whispering secrets in each other's ear, and just had to have this pair of jennets. Whisper is never far from her sister/buddy, MGF Tell Me a Tale. Whisper has her first foal at her side, The Elms Persistent Whisper, a beautiful dark brown jennet foaled in 2008 sired by Black Knight.

We bred this jennet, and sold the mother bred with what we were sure would be a great foal. We were thrilled to have the chance to buy a Black Knight daughter almost breeding age, and when we saw Koko, we just loved her. Very nice stocky build, with good bone, overall nice carriage, she is as good as we thought she would turn out to be. Koko will join our breeding herd in Spring 2007.

Dottie is the product of champion breeding and is the 2006 and 2007 Reserve ACOSA National Champion and Color Class winner in Shelbyville, TN. Dottie is trained for show and a standout everywhere she goes. Her sire and dam were both first in their class and both 2001 Reserve ACOSA National Champions. Here is a Champion with the hard to get tyger spotting pattern. Dottie will be 3 in August.

Update! Dottie once again is the Color Class winner at the 2008 Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show July 10-12, 2008, against stiff competiton. She also won the three and over ACOSA Jennet Class.

We were thrilled to buy Dots at the Great American Miniature Donkey Sale. She is so beautiful. We have bred her to Mojave for a 2009 and we think that should be an exciting foal!

All that white hair makes her stand out in the field! This serene, white jennet is genetically spotted, with the ability to produce any type of spotted pattern, or a solid colored foal. She is well built, nice wide chest, style, great legs. We have watched her develop and fill out, and are excited to have her enter our brood jennet herd. She has an interesting off center white blaze on her face, which we expect will broaden into the white roan face you sometimes see in the sorrel donkeys. Her sire is practically black, her dam is a gorgeous dark red. Whatever color her foals, they will be gorgeous.

Caroline has, just like her name, a very sweet disposition. She is nicely conformed and is relatively small for a black donkey. In 2003, she had a lovely first foal, The Elms Black Lace, a very feminine little jennet dressed in black silky hair. Black Lace stayed here to enter our brood jennet herd in 2006. In 2004, Caroline had The Elms Black Satin, also a beautiful black jennet. Black Knight has been siring wonderful foals with good builds, attractive looks, and many in black, and this is a good cross with Caroline.

Sienna Serenade is a lovely, quiet, black brown jennet who carries black genes. Her first foal is a very nice true black jennet. Her 2002 foal, The Elms Moonlight Serenade, is a dark brown and white spotted jennet, and is going on the show circuit. Her foals are square, have her easy movement, and fall naturally into a square stance. We look for more of the same high quality from this gentle jennet. In 2003, Sienna foaled The Elms Vienna Serenade, a chocolate jennet sired by Chaboom, every bit as nice as her previous foals.

She was tiny, with a presence you couldn't miss, and a wide chest not common in small donkeys. Sire:  L. Zeus (Lipps)
    Dam:  Burrcrest Jackie O'Assis

Status:  Bred to HHAA Mojave for Fall of 2007.

We really like Jill. She has very athletic movement, the hallmark of good conformation. She is a rich chocolate color and produces great foals.  Her first foal, the Elms Miss Sophie, was sold at NASS 2001. She is the mother of two black jacks, very drafty, very correct, and we think, excellent show quality.

Status:  Foaled a black roan jennet, The Elms Sweet Surprise, in 2006. Bred to Santana for 2007.

Nel is a striking, rose-dun or russet with black trim. She carries one red and one black gene.  Her sire is Fireball and her grand sire is The Fireman.  Her unusual all over body roaning, with a combination of white, black and red hairs, make her a stand out in the herd. Her first foal by Di Di, is a spectacular dark sorrel jennet we are keeping. Her second foal, this one sired by The Elms Eric the Red, is so beautiful, we had to name her The Elms She's Gloriass, because she is absolutely glorious. Great build and dark sorrel color. Nel has proven herself as a great brood jennet. When she foaled a black roan this year, we realized that Infer Nel is a russet. She carries one black and one red gene, and her foals have been dark red, one has her coloring, and now black!
